The Snead State Community College women's basketball team continues its standout season, earning a No. 20 ranking in the NJCAA Week 12 poll as the Parsons remain among the nation's elite junior college programs.
Snead State enters the week with a 20-3 overall record and a dominant 10-1 mark in conference play. Under the leadership of head coach Kenny Hill, the Parsons have combined disciplined defense, balanced scoring and consistent effort to build one of the strongest resumes in the conference.
"This team has been locked in from day one," Hill said. "They compete, they defend, and they play for each other. The ranking reflects the work they've put in, but our focus stays on getting better every time we step on the floor."
The Parsons' success has been fueled by a deep and productive lineup featuring contributions across all positions.
Sophomore Tazi Harris leads the team and ACCC Division II in scoring and rebounding. The Guntersville native is averaging 19.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 55.5 percent from the field and 68.4 percent from free throw line. Freshman Lauren Jimmerson has emerged as a key perimeter threat, averaging 11.9 points per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent from three-point range (which leads ACCC Division II).
Freshman Bree Sexton averages 9.9 points per game while nailing 39 three-pointers. Sophomore Laylah Davis averages 9.6 points per game, shooting 46.0 percent from the field, Kayla Childress, a freshman point guard, has started all 20 games and provided steady leadership, averaging 6.5 points and almost 4 assists per game directing the offense.
"Our depth has really been a strength," Hill said. "Whether it's a starter or someone coming off the bench, everyone understands their role and brings energy. That's what makes this group special."
Athletic Director Casey Underwood praised the program's consistency and culture.
"Coach Hill and his staff have done an outstanding job building a team that competes at a high level and represents Snead State with pride," Underwood said. "Being nationally ranked is a reflection of their commitment, discipline and teamwork."
Snead State President Dr. Joe Whitmore also highlighted the broader significance of the team's success.
"Our women's basketball team exemplifies excellence both on and off the court," Whitmore said. "Their accomplishments bring pride to Snead State Community College and to our entire community, and we are excited to watch them continue their strong season."
The Parsons return to action at home on Monday, Feb. 16, when they host Coastal Alabama North at 5 p.m. in Plunkett Wallace Gymnasium. The game will serve as Sophomore Night as Snead State honors its second-year student-athletes.
